Software Engineer, InterPlanetary Network Indexer
PL Job Board
About IPNI The InterPlanetary Network Indexer (IPNI) is the backbone of fast, scalable content routing in the IPFS and Filecoin ecosystems. It maintains a global index mapping content identifiers (CIDs) to providers, enabling CDN-like retrieval performance for ultra-large-scale decentralized storage. IPNI nodes ingest signed advertisements from providers, build distributed indices, and serve ultra-low-latency queries to retrieval clients across the world. The Role We’re looking for a high-growth software engineer to design, build, and scale the next generation of IPNI architecture, software, and infrastructure. You’ll work on the core indexing pipeline, distributed sync systems, and query APIs that power retrievals at web speed and scale. This is a deeply technical role at the intersection of distributed systems and networking—ideal for someone who wants to push the boundaries of web3 infra and innovate on the largest decentralized routing solution in production.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end development of core IPNI components: ingestion, advertisement chain sync, gossip/pubsub announce handling, query APIs, and distributed indexing infra.
- Design and implement highly available, geo-distributed indexing services optimized for speed, scalability, and correctness.
- Collaborate with Filecoin/IPFS teams (Lotus, Boost, libp2p, IP Shipyard) to integrate IPNI with retrieval markets and storage pipelines.
- Improve developer ergonomics by evolving APIs (Delegated Routing v1, /cid endpoints, streaming responses) and scaling client adoption.
- Benchmark, profile, and optimize system performance under real network load.
- Contribute to specs, architecture docs, and open-source repos, shaping the direction of decentralized content routing.
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years building production-grade distributed systems or large-scale backend infra.
- Deep experience in Go (bonus: libp2p, gRPC/HTTP APIs, large-scale storage/indexing).
- Strong background in networking protocols, databases, and performance optimization.
- Proven ability to design resilient systems that operate in adversarial, decentralized environments.
- Comfort working across the stack—from low-level protocol design to cloud infra and CI/CD.
- Excitement for IPFS, Filecoin, and advancing decentralized data infrastructure.
Nice to Have
- Prior contributions to open-source distributed systems (IPFS, libp2p, blockchain protocols).
- Experience with CDN, indexing/search infra, or pubsub systems.
- Familiarity with cryptographic signatures, immutable data structures, or consensus protocols.
Why Join You’ll be at the heart of scaling one of the most critical pieces of the decentralized web. Your code will directly power lightning-fast retrieval for billions of files. You’ll shape a core pillar of the decentralized web with massive ownership, real-world impact, and a global community of collaborators. Expect high ownership, global impact, and the chance to shape the future of decentralized content routing.
