About the Network

Protocol Labs is an innovation network of more than 600 teams, projects, and movements, focused on R&D and deploying network protocols. Our teams are purpose-aligned and share a common mission: To drive breakthroughs in computing to push humanity forward. For us, decentralization is more than just a rallying cry; it’s an operational ethos and a belief system baked into the products we develop. Network members have been responsible for creating and building many of the core primitives that power the decentralized web: IPFS, IPLD, Filecoin, libp2p, and more. Even more, our focus goes beyond web3 protocols and spans a wide range of technologies, including neurotech, AI, virtual reality, and more. For more information on the Protocol Labs network and our focus areas, please watch Juan Benet’s talk from PL Summit 2023.

About the Company

As an innovation network rooted in a culture of collaboration, Protocol Labs requires a fresh approach to advancing emerging technologies. Polaris builds the infrastructure that enables Protocol Labs teams, projects, and movements, and members to flourish. Our key focus areas include digital human rights, upgrading economies and governance systems, safe AI, and neurotech. We create the programs, tools, and events that connect, strengthen, and build the teams that drive breakthroughs in computing to push humanity forward. We manage network membership and track data to continuously gauge the growth and state of maturity of Protocol Labs across a number of critical pillars, and manage the Protocol Labs brand and strategic marketing initiatives. At the core of everything Polaris does, is the Protocol Labs mission and the desire to progress innovation.

About the Role - Network Intelligence Lead

The data intelligence team within Polaris is responsible for measuring and tracking network progress across key components (e.g., capital investment, network programs, talent development, knowledge sharing, and more). In this role, you’ll play a key role in determining what to track – the things that matter most in driving progress in our key fields – then instrumenting and capturing that data from a decentralized group of projects and teams. The work you do is critically important to helping us understand which activities and programs are most valuable in driving progress across the network.

Job requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Develop a deep understanding of each of Protocol Labs’ focus areas, and understand the key drivers of progress in each of them
  • Develop a deep understanding of each component of network infrastructure and how they align with the needs of projects, teams, and individuals in the network
  • Work with network leaders to identify key metrics that drive progress for the network and each focus area
  • Create data instrumentation, gather and visualize data to generate valuable insights that inform Polaris and network strategy and plans

We expect that the ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 8+ years in data analytics, strategy, or leadership roles, preferably within innovation networks or entrepreneurial ecosystems.
  • A strong generalist background, able to reason through problems from first principles
  • Proficiency in advanced data analytics, including leveraging AI for data gathering and analysis, data visualization tools, and real-time network health tracking.
  • Deep expertise in web3, decentralized systems, or fields like neurotech, with the ability to navigate emerging and interdisciplinary landscapes.
  • Deep understanding of decentralized systems, community-led innovations, and the unique challenges of tracking performance in distributed ecosystems.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to align a diverse group of decentralized stakeholders toward shared goals.
  • Strategic mindset with a proven ability to use data-driven insights to inform leadership decisions and organizational planning.
  • A high degree of initiative and problem-solving capability, demonstrated by managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
