Today, the process of building web3 applications is fragmented, difficult and insecure. Our web3 development environment and cloud platform, currently pre-launch, are out to change this story. Cubist’s founding team includes skilled operators who are former founders and early startup employees, as well as respected academics who have collectively published over 80 papers in the areas of computer systems, security, programming languages, and cryptography. We are well funded, having closed a seed round in July led by a top-tier venture firm, and we’re excited to grow our core team as we build momentum for launch.

About the Senior Product Designer Role:

As Cubist’s first full-time designer, you will work directly with the founders and engineering team on a highly technical product for web3 software developers. The developer experience will be extremely important for our product’s success—so we’re committed to getting it right! We’re looking for someone with broad design skills and interests spanning visual design, software UI/UX, and user research. You will drive features from start to finish and work with other teams to measure the performance of your designs, then iterate on them so we keep improving. You’ll also be our visual design and branding expert as we create our first customer-facing collateral.

You will have an advantage in this role if you have previous exposure to developer tools or SaaS platforms, as well as a firm understanding of the software development life cycle and developer personas. You must be a masterful storyteller who is skilled at using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data to distill complex workflows and make design decisions. To succeed at Cubist, you should be someone who is happy in a fast-paced startup environment where speed and experimentation are valued over perfection. We anticipate that most qualified candidates will have 8 or more years of experience.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Web app UI/UX: Produce storyboards, wireframes, interactive prototypes and/or other design deliverables using an industry standard tool like Figma.
  • User flows: Synthesize user flows that reflect distinct user personas and deep understanding of the problems Cubist solves for each customer segment.
  • User research and testing: Participate in voice of the customer activities to gather requirements and feedback, and examine product usage data to understand key metrics around adoption and satisfaction.
  • Design reviews: Propose design solutions based on data, and work cross-functionally to determine the best path forward at various stages of the development process.
  • Visual design: Create on-brand layouts and graphics for external-facing materials like developer documentation, educational content, sales and marketing collateral, customer reports, company website, and slide decks.

  • Experience writing JavaScript web apps
  • Prior professional experience with web3 and blockchains
  • Video production and editing skills

Compensation & Perks:

  • Competitive salary and pre-Series A stock options
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits
  • Home office stipend
  • Company retreats

Why Cubist?

As our first product designer, you’ll have a unique opportunity to shape product direction and early customer interactions, and you’ll play a significant part in defining Cubist’s design culture and aesthetic. Our team is curious, energetic, collaborative, ambitious—and fully remote. We are going after a big problem with a transformative solution, and want to work alongside others who are similarly bold and motivated. If this sounds like fun, we’d love to hear from you!
